Allianz Global Assistance provides emergency medical insurance for visitors to Canada, immigrants, and returning Canadian citizens.

Allianz Global Assistance Policy Wording

Eligibility

  • Coverage is NOT AVAILABLE to any individual who, as of their effective date :
    a) has been diagnosed with a terminal illness; or
    b) has been diagnosed with stage 3 or 4 cancer; or
    c) has received treatment for any cancer (other than basal or squamous cell skin cancer or breast cancer treated only with hormone therapy) in the past 3 months; or
    d) requires assistance with activities of daily living as the result of a medical condition or state of health
  • To be eligible for coverage you must, as of the effective date:
    a) be at least 15 days old and not more than 89 years old; and
    b) not be insured or eligible for benefits under a Canadian government health insurance plan; and
    c) be in good health at the time you purchase your policy and on the date you exit your country of origin, and know of no reason to seek medical consultation during the period of coverage.

Coverage During Flight to/from Canada

Covered if purchased before leaving country of origin.

$10,000 – $25,000 – $50,000 – $100,000 – $150,000 – $300,000

Deductible

Deductible Applies: Per person, Per-policy period

  • Standard: $0
  • Optional: $100 – $250 – $1,000 – $3,000

Emergency Hospital

Semi-private hospital accommodation

Emergency Medical

  • Services of a legally licensed physician, surgeon, or anesthetist
  • Diagnostics, lab test and/or x-ray
  • Licensed local air, land or sea ambulance to the nearest hospital
  • Private duty services of a registered nurse when approved in advance by AGA . Not to exceed $10,000.
  • Emergency out-patient services provided by a hospital

Drugs or Medications

Up to $1,000 not exceeding a 30-day supply

Professional Services

Chiropractor, physiotherapist, chiropodist, podiatrist or osteopath when ordered by the attending physician. Not to exceed $500 per profession.

Emergency Air Transportation / Return home

Transportation to your country of origin when immediate medical consultation is required. Must be pre-approved and arranged by AGA.

Transportation of Family

Up to $3,000 to transport one family member or close friend; and up to $1,000 for meals, accommodation, phone calls and taxi fares.

Follow-up Visits

Follow-up visits as prescribed by the attending physician

Accidental Dental

Up to $4,000 for emergency services or treatment for injuries to teeth resulting from an accidental blow to the face

Dental Emergencies

Up to $500 for the immediate relief of acute dental pain

Emergency Return Home

Up to $3,000 for the additional cost of a one-way economy transportation for self and one family member

Return of Deceased

Up to $10,000 for preparation and return of remains, or up to $4,000 for cremation or burial at place of death

Accidental Death & Dismemberment

Up to the maximum sum insured as indicated on your confirmation of coverage for loss of life, limb or sight resulting from an accidental injury (except while riding in, boarding or alighting from an aircraft)

Exposure & Disappearance

If you are exposed to the elements and suffer a covered loss, or if you disappear and your body has not been recovered after 52 weeks.

Coverage for Flight Accident

Available as an optional purchased plan

Pre-existing conditions

Detailed Medical Questionnaire is optional.

FOR VISITORS TO CANADA:

Age 0-59: Standard Policy covers pre-existing conditions if stable for 90 days.

Age 60-79: Are you requesting coverage for pre-existing heart condition; stroke or mini-stroke (TIA-transient ischemic attack); or any other pre-existing condition that has not been stable in the 180 days prior to effective date of policy?

  • Yes – Complete detailed medical questionnaire
  • No – You will not be covered for the above listed conditions; or any other condition that has not been stable for 180 days

Age 80-89: Are you requesting coverage for any pre-existing condition?

  • Yes – Complete detailed medical questionnaire
  • No – You will not be covered for any pre-existing conditions

FOR INPATRIATES TO CANADA:

Age 0-59: Standard Policy covers pre-existing conditions if stable for 90 days.

Age 60-79: Complete Medical Questionnaire through Quicktic

  • Standard Policy applies if you qualify
  • Detailed Medical Questionnaire needed if you do not qualify

Waiting Period for Sickness-related Benefits

No waiting period applies if the insurance is purchased prior to the arrival date in Canada.
A 48-hour waiting period will apply if you purchase your policy after the expiry date of an existing AGA policy or after you exit your country of origin.

Claims Procedures

Note: In the event of a medical emergency, AGA must be notified within 24 hours of admission to a hospital and before any surgery is performed. If you fail to do so without reasonable cause, then we will pay 80% of the claim payable. You will be responsible for the remaining 20% of the claim payable.
Claims must be reported within 30 days of occurrence.
Written proof of claim must be submitted within 90 days of occurrence.
