TuGo provides emergency medical insurance for visitors to Canada, newly landed immigrants, or returning Canadian citizens.

Visitors to Canada Emergency Medical Insurance

Eligibility

  • You are eligible for coverage if:
    1 . You are over the age of 14 days old and have not reached the age of 90 years at the time of application.
    2 . You are:
    . a)  A foreign worker, or a visitor to Canada with valid legal status in Canada; or,
    . b)  An immigrant awaiting provincial or territorial government health care coverage; or,
    . c)   A returning Canadian not eligible for a provincial or territorial government health care plan due to an extended leave .

Coverage during Flight to/from Canada

Covered if policy is purchased prior to leaving country of origin.

Sum Insured

Available in increments of $10,000 up to a maximum of $300,000.

Deductible

Deductible applies: Per person, Per claim

  • Standard: $0
  • Optional: $500 – $1,000 – $2,500 – $5,000 – $10,000

Note: If you failed to answer the medical questionnaire truthfully any claim will be subject to an extra deductible of $15,000 USD.

Emergency Hospital

  • Semi-private hospital accommodation
  • Emergency medical treatment as an outpatient

Emergency Medical

  • Services of physician
  • X-ray or diagnostic laboratory procedures
  • Licensed ground, mountain, or sea ambulance to the nearest hospital
  • Private duty services of a registered nurse (when ordered in writing by attending physician expressly in lieu of hospitalization)
  • Rental or purchase of essential medical appliances (purchased appliances not to exceed the cost if they had been rented)

Drugs or Medications

Up to $10,000 not exceeding a 30-day supply.
While confined to hospital, the company will reimburse the total cost of such medicines and/or drugs.

Non-Emergency Medical Treatment

Up to $3,000 per policy provided treatment is the direct result of the initial emergency medical treatment.

Professional Services

Up to a maximum of $500 for acute emergency pain, per practitioner, for a physiotherapist, chiropractor, chiropodist, osteopath, or podiatrist.

Emergency Air Transportation / Return home

This benefit is payable only when pre-approved  and arranged by Claims at TuGo
a)  Medical air evacuation to the nearest medical facility equipped to provide the treatment, or for return to your country of residence; or,
b)  The cost of stretcher fare or one-way economy airfare to return to your country of residence for immediate medical treatment; and,
c)   The cost of a return economy airfare for a qualified medical attendant to accompany you when the medical attendant is medically necessary or required by the airline.

Medical Return of Insured Travelling Companion

This benefit is payable only when pre-approved  and arranged by Claims at TuGo
If you are returned under the Emergency Air Transportation Benefit or the Repatriation Benefit, the company will reimburse a one-way economy airfare back to point of departure for one travelling companion.

Out-of-Pocket Expenses

Up to $200 per day to a maximum of $2,000, in the event you or your travelling companion are confined to hospital on the date on which you are due to return home, for commercial accommodation, meals, telephone calls and taxi/bus fare.

Child Care

Up to $50 per day to a maximum of $2,000, in the event you are confined to hospital and thus prevented from returning home. Benefit is only applicable to children travelling with you.

Transportation of Family

This benefit is payable only when pre-approved  and arranged by Claims at TuGo
If an attending physician considers it necessary, the company will reimburse one economy airfare or ground transportation for a family member to be with you while you are in hospital, and $100 per day for meals and commercial accommodation.

Accidental Dental

Up to $4,000 for emergency treatment for accident requiring repair or replacement of natural teeth or permanently attached artificial teeth.
Note: Treatment must be initiated within 48 hours from the time the emergency began and completed no later than 90 days after the treatment began and prior to your return to your country of permanent residence.

Other Dental Emergencies

Up to a maximum limit of $600 for dental for any other dental emergencies other than pain caused by accident.
Note: Treatment must be initiated within 48 hours from the time the emergency began and completed no later than 90 days after the treatment began and prior to your return to your country of permanent residence.

Maternity

Up to $3,000 for pregnancy, childbirth and complications thereof in the last nine (9) weeks of the expected date of delivery provided the pregnancy commenced after the effective date of the policy.

Return of Deceased/Repatriation

Up to $12,000 for the preparation and return of your body, including the cost of a standard shipping container (excluding cost of casket); or
Up to $5,000 for burial or for cremation at the place of death, in the event your body is not returned to your country of permanent residence.

Return of Vehicle

Up to $2,500 to return a vehicle that you own or rent to your country of residence or the nearest appropriate rental agency if you are incapable of continuing your trip by the means of the vehicle used for the trip and your travelling companion is unable to do so.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment

Up to $25,000 for accidental death & dismemberment as a result of an accident during period of coverage.
100% of maximum for loss of life, double dismemberment or loss of sight in both eyes or 50% for single dismemberment or loss of sight in one eye.

Air Flight Accident

Up to $25,000 for death & dismemberment sustained while entering, riding or leaving a helicopter or airplane.
100% of maximum for loss of life, double dismemberment or loss of sight in both eyes or 50% for single dismemberment or loss of sight in one eye.

Pre-existing conditions

  • Age 0 to 69 – Pre-existing conditions covered only if stable during the 120 days prior to the effective date
  • Age 70 to 79 – Pre-existing conditions covered only if stable during the 120 days prior to the effective date and the applicable optional coverage was purchased
  • Age 80 to 89 – Pre-existing conditions NOT covered

Waiting Period for Sickness-related Benefits

No waiting period applies if the insurance is purchased prior to the arrival date in Canada
The following waiting periods will apply if the insurance is purchased after arrival in Canada:

  • Purchased within 60 days of arrival – 48 Hour waiting period
  • Purchased 61 or more days after arrival – 7 Day waiting period
